The NAWIC Annual Meeting & Education Conference (AMEC), held in San Antonio, TX, was packed with fun, education, and an all-around a good time!  With 390 ladies in attendance, the Conference was kicked off with a fiesta-themed Welcome Reception where there were colorful costumes and some Texas flair! Keynote speaker, Coach Jenn Lee, started the conference with her presentation on how to 'Make Great Things Happen!'  I also had the pleasure of attending Coach Jenn Lee’s Seminar, ‘Masterful Mindset and Maneuvers’. I learned never to apologize for who you are, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. YOU have the power to Inspire Others, Influence Others, and Close the Gap!

At the Industry Luncheon, we officially installed Doreen Bartoldus from the Lower Hudson, NY chapter as our new Regional Director and our Past Regional Director Catherine Schoenenberger is now our National President-Elect!

Friday August 19th was the NAWIC Awards Gala.  Among the many awards received were those for the Future Leader of the Year, Member of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement. The Carol E. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award was presented to Mr. Jack E. Chapel (Education Coordinator – Associated General Contractors of America).

Congratulations to our fellow NAWIC Northeast Region sisters for their awards as well:

  • ·         Capital District, NW Chapter #261 (Community Builder Award)
  • ·         Eastern Maine Chapter #329 (Consistently Reporting – PR/Marketing)
  • ·         No. 1 of Rhode Island Chapter #52 (Consistently Reporting – PR/Marketing)
  • ·         Greater Rochester, NY Chapter #314 ( 2nd Place for Most New Members)
  • ·         Romina Byrd – Greater Washington DC Chapter #67 (Executive Spotlight Award)
  • ·         Jillian Penkin - Greater Rochester, NY Chapter #314 (NAWIC Rockin’ It Award)

On Saturday August 20th, I received fantastic insight and inspiration from our National and Regional PR/Marking & Membership Chairs on how to improve the chapter’s efforts.  It starts now!

Lastly, thank you to Exelon for being a generous and involved sponsor.  They stand by what they say and have done so last year and this year.  I had the pleasure of having dinner with the representatives from Exelon, BGE, and ComEd. It was a great way to get to know each of the Exelon divisions across the board.

I hope you can join us next year at AMEC in Anaheim, CA!  I promise you will not be disappointed!

As I come upon my second term as your chapter president, I look forward to bringing you exciting and fresh ideas.  I have been asked to be our Northeast Region PR/Marketing Chair, and I could not be more thrilled.  I have decided upon a chapter theme this upcoming year as well – Communicate The Passion.  Visualize The Future”, which means, as a chapter, we need to communicate with others within the industry about NAWIC.  Get the word out.  This way, we can see what is in store for all of us in the future.

I hope you will come with me on this exciting journey!
