There have been many recent articles and books written about women balancing work and life, and being urged to “lean in” to their careers.  The field of architecture is especially challenging for women as they navigate waters in what has traditionally been a man’s world.  One key ingredient in achieving success is the ability to communicate effectively with male colleagues and clients.  Be prepared to work in small group discussions that will key into methods of strengthening one’s communication skills - vital to both personal happiness and career success. This program will explore various aspects of female communication styles and discuss the intended and unintended consequences of verbal and non-verbal messages.

The workshop will be lead by Cheryl Duvall, FIIDA, LEED AP.  Cheryl is a frequent speaker on various topics, including change management, innovative office design, and work-life fullness. She is founder of Avancé, LLC, a consulting firm linking workplace design with organization development. Her services cover a wide range, from one-on-one coaching of design professionals, to leading strategic visioning for corporate headquarters projects.

Duvall holds a Master’s in Positive Organization Development and Change from Case Western Reserve University, and a Bachelor’s in Interior Design from University of Maryland. Prior to forming Avancé in 2001, Cheryl was Senior Vice President of GHK Associates and the firm’s only woman shareholder. She led the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. offices after their acquisition of her 12-year old firm, Duvall/Hendricks, Inc.

Light refreshments sponsored by the verve partnership, llc, will be available.
